Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Questions from others like you.

What makes a great guide?

Our best guides first believe that each child has genius, some unique gift or talent that can be used to change the world. No amount of equipping will ever make up for a lack of belief.

Then, they have evidence of living life as a hero on a hero's journey, where exciting adventure leads to difficult, meaningful challenges that, if faced with courage and determination, allows the hero transform.

With that foundation, great Acton Academy guides tend to share a few core qualities:

- Independent learners who self-start, adapt quickly, and model curiosity

- Warm-hearted encouragers who offer specific, growth-minded praise

- Non-judgmental, tough-minded challengers who offer meaningful challenges— then step back, allowing learners to struggle, fail, reflect, and grow

If you are are a fast learner, hard worker, believe in young people, and work well with others, you're encouraged to apply.

Are you currently hiring?

Yes. We are always searching for extraordinary guides across the Acton Academy Network.

May I arrange a phone call or visit?

Yes, but not at this time. When you get to step three, you'll be invited to meet hiring owners in your geographic areas of interest.

What is the pay and do you offer benefits?

Pay and benefits are negotiated locally at the campus level. Most campuses have competitive pay with a strong growth trajectory if you choose to launch or lead a campus.

Most campuses don't offer direct benefits and prefer to maximize your pay for you to decide how to allocate it. For example, most guides generally have little trouble arranging their own health care coverage.

What is the school calendar?

Most campuses run between ten and eleven months a year, typically with five to six week “sessions” followed by a week off and six to eight weeks off for summer. Guides across the network tend to enjoy this rhythm, feeling it works well for themselves and the learners they serve.

Notice of Nondiscriminatory Policy as to Students and Affiliates

Acton Academy admits learners and affiliates of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students via online school presence. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
